Automation plays a crucial role in supporting Cloud FinOps and maximizing cloud cost-effectiveness using methods such as maid services, power scheduling, and more.

Here are 9 NEW solutions offered in AstroHub to support Cloud FinOps:

1. Clean-up idle EBS Volumes

In addition to our existing solution to easily convert to more cost-effective types such as gp2 to gp3, now you can easily set an expiration date for unattached EBS Volumes to automatically be deleted. Optionally set exemption criteria to easily handle outliers.

2. Remove unused Elastic IP addresses

Traditionally, unattached EIPs in AWS are charged a nominal hourly charge. Starting February 1st 2024, AWS will be charging for all EIPs. Our existing solution to gain visibility over all EIPs across your Organization is now enhanced to easily remove EIPs that are no longer needed.

3. Terminate idle ElastiCache Clusters

ElastiCache clusters are billed per compute and storage used, as well as data transfer charges. If you have idle clusters with outdated data consuming storage, E1 can help terminate them to recoup cost.

4. Delete idle Kendra Indices

By creating an index in AWS Kendra, you are charged for hourly for that index until it is deleted. There is hourly pricing and monthly pricing associated with the Kendra service. Easily delete idle indices in E1.

5. Remove idle Neptune

On-Demand Neptune instances let you pay for your database by the hour. The downside is that unused instances are constantly incurring charges. Enhanced visibility in E1 allows you to take instant inventory and decide what resources are no longer needed. Power schedule non-idle clusters for additional cost optimization.

6. Remove idle QuickSight Users

Users in AWS QuickSight are charged up to $50 a month. Easily remove idle users to further optimize your cloud spend.

7. Remove idle VPC Endpoints

Like most cloud services, VPC Endpoints incur charges hourly. Consolidation where possible is ideal, but after that, our E1 system gives you the line-of-sight into where unecessary endpoints can be removed.

8. Remove idle NAT Gateways

You are charged for each “NAT Gateway-hour" that your gateway is provisioned and available. Data processing charges also apply for each gigabyte processed, regardless of the traffic’s source or destination. If you no longer wish to be charged for a NAT gateway, simply delete your NAT gateway using our E1 system & command.

9. Enable the compression setting on your Cloudfront distributions

Although this isn't cleaning up idle resources, this setting applied across your distributions can help save on monthly data egress charges.

All of these solutions are offered at no extra cost to existing customers of Echelon One. A few clicks to install, and they are ready to run! Easily build on top of these baseline solutions to take your business & cloud management to the next level!
